SAAC MEETING

Held in Arlington, VA
Wolverine athletes attend SAAC meeting,
assemble kits for sexual assault victims program

Wesley Wolverine softball senior #22 C/INF Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, DE) is on the road again.

As President of Wesley College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Morgan traveled earlier this year to San Antonio, Texas, for the national 2016 NCAA Convention.

SAAC gathering

Last Friday, February 5, Morgan and Wesley soccer players, Kayla Ryan and Sammy Williams, attended the Capital Atheletic Conference's (CAC's) SAAC meeting at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.  Aside: Softball co-captain Morgan also is a co-captain and all-conference field hockey player.

A smaller size version of the soft, cuddly bear, who comes with a story book, is part of the After-Care Kits distributed to assault victims and used by F2F as a counseling tool.

F2F organization

A highlight of the Wesley group's involvement in the SAAC gathering was participation in the Fear 2 Freedom (F2F) program.

F2F is an effort that – stated in its mission – acts “to redeem and restore those wounded by sexual assault.” It was founded in 2011 by Rosemary Trible, First Lady of CAC member Christopher Newport University.

F2F accomplishes its goals primarily through partnerships with colleges and hospitals to provide F2F Kits to victims of sexual assault. The number “2” in the name represents that every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted in America.

Wesley's backpack kits

The Wesley contingent didn't come empty handed, either. “We put together backpacks that had clothing, personal items, and a hand written letter letting the victims know someone cared about them,” explained Head Coach Greep.

Morgan herself was asked to lead the F2F meeting at the convention in the Fear 2 Freedom pledge, which reads:

“I pledge to help end sexual violence on this campus. I will stand firm to protect my fellow classmates on and off campus. I pledge to 'Be the Change'.”
"Be the Change" and "Restore the Joy" are the slogans F2F has adopted to encapsulate its message for victims of assault.
