FLORIDA TEAM DINNER

Parents asked to contribute dishes
Florida Wolverine team-family dinner
planned after games on Monday evening

For those traveling to Florida: Rest on Sunday.

Because starting Monday it gets busy!

Magnificent Seven” is the name of the home shared
by Fromal, Marcano, Beall, Hoffman and Engel families
while at The Spring Games, Clermont, Florida. The
Wolverines
are staying at a similar house nearby.
Monday morning, March 7, at 10:00 AM is team picture taking. Then there are games at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM followed by a team-family dinner at the Wolverines team house. The rest of the week is game day everyday.

Ivelisse Marcano is organizing Monday's team-family dinner. Parents are asked to contribute dishes, main meals, sides or desserts. There are plenty of paper products on hand, so no need to bring plates, cups, etc.

“So far we have on the menu: linguine, shrimp & salad, baked or grilled chicken & Spanish rice” says Ivelisse. But additional food items are needed.

If you are traveling with the team to Florida, please plan to bring a dish and join the Wolverines for dinner on Monday evening.

Wesley Wolverines vs. Albright Lions,
Saturday, February 27, 2016

Wesley Wolverine freshman #13 Utility Ashley Royer (Lititz, PA) was a familiar figure in center field this weekend. Behind her (albeit on the other side of the fence) was Jose Marcano, father of junior #18 C Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE). Of course, Jose was not looking to catch anything EXCEPT literally hundreds of action photos taken through both Saturday's and Sunday's doubleheaders. In the slideshow below are 136 shots culled from many megabits of his pictures snapped during Saturday’s games. (A sampling of his Sunday work will be posted later this week.)

Wolverine friends, family and fans

If your traveling to Florida for The Spring Games, there's a photo opportunity on Monday morning, March 7, at 10:00 AM at the club house where the team will be staying. Parents, friends, fans are invited to snap a shot of a player or players as well as the entire team.

If the past is any indication, the Wesley Wolverines will pose together in several team formations before breaking out into different groups, most especially seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen posed together for their own team class picture. Then, photos of individual players with family and friends can be taken, too. (The first game on Monday is not played until 1:00 PM.)

REPOST: THREE ASSISTANT COACHES

CLICK HERE for Coach Greep's Wolverine bio

First posted at the blog on Monday, September 14, 2015

Head Coach Juli Greep
Three accomplished talents
Wolverine assistant coaches boast impressive player stats

Behind Head Coach Juli Greep this year are three assistant coaches who are not far removed from their own playing days.

Any one of the trio can pretty much state “been there, done that” – and handled it well, actually, just in the last few years – to anything the Wesley Wolverines may encounter this season.

Meet the new assistant coaches...

Assistant Coach Brooke Donovan
BROOKE DONOVAN was a four year starter from 2011-2014, roaming the outfield for the DI Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers where she contributed 34 doubles, 10 HR, 65 RBI, and scored a career 100 runs, while playing in a school-record 234 games!

She was named to the 2012 Big South All - Tournament Team after helping guide Coastal to its sixth Big South tournament championship.

Her hometown is Bear, DE, and she attended Hodgson Vocational Technical High School.

Assistant Coach Nicole Rodi
NICOLE RODI hails from the Allegheny College Gators squad where she was a four-year starter at the infield corners from 2010- 2013 and named to the NCAC Championship All-Conference team.

As a freshman, she totaled a team-best 233 putouts over 33 games. In 109 career games, she belted 18 doubles, 8 HR and 58 RBI.

As a team captain in her final season with the Gators, Coach Rodi helped lead the team back to the NCAA DIII Tournament for the first time since 1996.

Her hometown is Chalfont, PA, and she attended Central Bucks South High School.

Assistant Coach Ashlyn Booth-Hare
ASHLYN BOOTH-HARE is a former 2011-2012 stand out on the Wesley Wolverines softball team.

Coach Hare was a 2x All CAC selection, NFCA All -Region and ECAC selection. In her two Wesley seasons as a junior and senior, she played 63 games compiling a .385 batting average with 16 doubles, 11 HR and 55 RBI.

Prior to Wesley, Coach Booth played at Delaware Tech where her team won Regional Championship and participated in the NJCAA World Series. She was named Regional Tournament MVP and Second Team All-Region catcher.

Her hometown is Laurel, DE, and she attended Laurel High School.

THE ALBRIGHT COLLEGE LIONS are coming off their first winning season since 2005, finishing last season with a 19-16 record. Albright returns nine letter winners from last year's team including All-MAC Commonwealth performers P/1B #16 Sammi O'Connor and C/1B #22 Armida Roman.

THE SWARTHMORE GARNET have brought back its entire pitching staff in the sophomore trio of #23 P Frankie Ponziani, #15 P Mary Olesnavich, and #20 P Emily Bowman. Key returners on offense include #9 OF Sarah Planthaber, who batted .403 with 25 hits last season, and #7 P Christen Boas Hayes, who led team with 17 RBIs.

THE WESLEY WOLVERINES feature talent across the field with 2015 all-conference #32 INF Kayla Fromal and #12 P Lindsay Siok. Three previous team MVPs wearing the navy and white are Fromal, #6 MI Breanna Hartman and #18 C Nina Marcano, the latter holding the conference's all-time triples record. MARCANO PHOTOGRAPHY

Providing hundreds of game shots
Jose Marcano is a man with a camera
chronicling Wolverines' softball season

There will be plenty of softball action on the field this weekend and a great deal of it will be captured in photos by the talented Wesley Wolverine fan Jose Marcano, father of junior #18 catcher Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE).

Many, if not most, of the game pictures posted at this blog are shot by him.

Jose Marcano
You will find Jose on the edge of the field, often behind the dead centerfield fence, with digital camera set on a monopod, while taking aim anywhere the ball might fly. Then, he doesn't take “a” photo, he has his finger pressed on burst mode for a string of continuous shots. It is not unusual for Jose to deliver 200 or 300, sometimes 400 or even more photos from a single day's doubleheader.

The best of his work has been shared with fellow fans at this blog for the past three years now. It is free of any copyrights and can be downloaded by parents, friends and fans. You will find fresh shots of the upcoming 2016 season from Jose posted here in the week's ahead.

Jose has attended almost every home game, most road games, as well as the Myrtle Beach tournaments for the past two seasons. He plans to travel this year to the Clermont, FL, contests, too.

CAC 2016 PRESEASON POLL

Video interview included
CAC releases preseason poll,
Wolverines picked for 6th place

The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has released it's 2016 softball preseason poll with the Wesley Wolverines slotted for a sixth place finish. Be assured, the team has MUCH higher aspirations.

#1: Chris Newport over Salisbury

Christopher Newport picks up a predicted first place, while Salisbury is projected to settle for the standing's second position. That is exactly how the CAC ended up last season (2015) despite Salisbury being ranked higher nationally -- often #1 -- all season long and even going on to compete in the final DIII national championship game for the third consecutive year in a row.

CLICK HERE for more on the battle last year between these two Universities plus the CAC's 2016 preview for ALL teams in the league.

The focus on Wesley:

"drive and tenacity to turn heads"

The poll notes the following about the Wolverines:

WESLEY enters the 2016 campaign with hopes to build on last year's season. The squad finished with a program-record 23 wins and won their most conference games since the 2009 season. Fifth-year head coach Juli Greep has high hopes that this season will include a CAC Tournament appearance for the Wolverines. Wesley returns four of their top six hitters and their two best arms from last season and have the drive and tenacity to turn heads in the conference.

Video interviews

The CAC also conducted video interviews with each team's head coach and a player from the squad. Representing Wesley was Head Coach Juli Greep and senior #22 C/INF Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, DE).

Below is a shortened video excerpted from the CAC interviews. It covers JUST WESLEY'S PARTICIPATION

For the full CAC preseason webcast, CLICK HERE to view the longer video featuring ALL EIGHT teams in the conference.

Note: The video below credits Morgan as being a junior, but she actually is playing this season in her final year as a senior. Morgan also talks in the video about team goals built around an idea (“a word”) that may serve as a Wolverine softball tradition. That word reportedly is “DESIRE”!
