STACEY PORTER

VIDEO (SLOW DOWNLOAD): Stacey Porter's swing...

The Pennsylvania Rebellion of the National Pro Fastpitch today signed Stacey Porter. Known by many as the best player in Australia. She was a D1 All-American (in the US) in college and Porter participated in two Summer Olympics leading her teams to silver and bronze medals and won a gold medal at the World Championships. Here is her swing. Very interesting footwork.I will say this. Her bat path is very good and landing so far open does allow her hips to work really well. Having said that, I would not recommend her footwork to anyone. It works for her and not for very many. I'm not sure how she hits an outside pitch.

THE OFFICIAL Wolverine Volleyball team will play this Saturday, October 31, at 12 Noon in the Wentworth Gym. They will hand out trick-or-treat bags to the first 40 fans!

PITCH CALLING

Advice to catchers for calling a great game…

Click here for the full story titled “How to Avoid the 4 Biggest Pitch Calling Mistakes” from the Softball Excellence website.

Pitch calling MISTAKES …

1. No REAL Knowledge of Your Pitcher…
To effectively call pitches you MUST know the answer to one question: 'What’s this pitcher’s best chance to throw a strike on THIS PITCH!' …

2. Calling YOUR Favorite Pitches… Instead of calling your favorite pitch, spend time with each of your pitchers to discover their best pitch, and then build your game plan around that! …

Wesley Wolverine junior #18 C Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE)

3. Calling For Batter – It’s easy to fall into the trap of calling pitches based on the batter. That might even sound stupid to say out load – like what else would you call pitches for?! And my answer would be – for your pitcher! Instead of focusing on preventing the batter from hitting the ball hard, focus on how your pitcher can throw a strike...

4. Only Opposites – Here’s the typical pitch calling sequence… screwball, curveball, screwball, curveball. Opposites all day long. Hitters usually hit predictability more than they hit mistakes… Turn your pitch-calling focus onto the pitcher and away from yourself and you’ll have gone a long way in helping your pitcher throw her best game!”

SOFTBALL RECRUITING

Please share with prospects
Wesley College & Wolverine
SOFTBALL recruiting checklist

DELAWARE'S OLDEST PRIVATE COLLEGE. Founded in 1873, Wesley College is a leading liberal arts college located in the heart of historic Dover, Delaware, the capital city of the First State.

High school seniors and juniors interested in playing collegiate fastpitch should seriously review the benefits of Wesley College's Wolverine softball. Here are seven easy steps to get started toward seeking a commitment without having to make a firm commitment by the player.

1. GET TO KNOW Wesley College and its undergraduate programs as well as the latest news, national reviews and basic stats.

2. CONSIDER THE ADVANTAGES of DIII's balanced approach to sports programs. Education is always the highest priority, while there is no lack of arduous softball workouts or a highly competitive game schedule. (Wesley softball plays nationally ranked DIII teams during the season!)

3. CONTACT WESLEY COLLEGE admissions to schedule a visit to the campus. Click here to apply online.

SOFTBALL PROGRAM

4. SUBMIT a prospect questionnaire form.

5. E-MAIL Head Coach Juli Greep to introduce yourself, share your interests, high school achievements and fastpitch strengths, and, if available, list where you will be playing high school and/or club softball.

6. LOOK INTO WESLEY COLLEGE'S fall softball camps. Application forms can be found at the softball homepage.

7. FOLLOW WESLEY COLLEGE SOFTBALL online. Click here for the softball homepage. Click here for the softball Facebook page. Click here for the softball blog. Click here for Wolverine softball tweets.

MENTAL ASPECT OF HITTING

CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL STORY TITLED “THE MENTAL ASPECTS OF HITTING” FROM THE SOFTBALL SPOT BLOG.

HIGHLIGHTS...

IMPORTANCE OF CONFIDENCE. A confident hitter is fearless, stress-free, and looks forward to those pressure situations that develop in games. Her confidence is buoyed by proper practice...

Wesley Wolverine freshman #13
Utility Ashley Royer (Lititz, PA)
Confidence is the most important part of the mental game. It is the emotional part of knowing you are prepared…

DEALING WITH FEAR. Fear of failure initiates a rapid heartbeat, an irregular
breathing pattern, or perspiration. It tightens the body and clutters a hitter’s mind...

Great athletes turn fear into anger and attack it. They use the energy from fear to defeat their opponents, allowing them to play at a higher level…

POSITIVE SELF-TALK. Positive self-talk is a few positive words or a phrase that moves a player out of a fearful or negative frame of mind into a more conscious “I can do this” state...

Self-talk is unique to the hitter. It needs to be a statement that frees herself of all outside influences and brings on thoughts related only to hitting. It can be used at any time before or during an at-bat, but is particularly effective in between pitches as the hitter gets into the batter’s box."
