Ashley Royer takes utility role
to new heights with glove and bat
Where is the utility Wolverine Ashley Royer, the first-team-All-State freshman from Lititz, PA, most comfortable playing on the softball field? Answer: just put her anywhere: behind the plate, on the infield dirt, or across the outfield grass. She'll take care of it.
In last Tuesday's fall-ball games, Ashley easily handled assignments in center field, third base, and even behind the plate to catch a few innings. If there was more time in the night, fans might have seen her in left and right, shortstop, second and first base, too – all positions where Head Coach Juli Greep expects to tap her softball talents in the 2016 season.
She won't be alone shifting to different positions. The team is extremely versatile this year. For instance, co-captain senior #22 C/INF Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, DE) is a natural catcher behind the plate, who also shined at shortstop all last year and can cover third and first base, as well. At bat, Morgan is a tough-out switch hitter and accomplished slap hitter.
At the same time, Ashley's super-utility skills do not stop with her glove, either. At the plate last Tuesday evening, she introduced herself to the team with an astounding 5-for-6 performance.
