2013 FALL SOFTBALL versus Delaware State Hornets.
Name:
Lily Engel

Hometown: Dover, DE

Primary position:

Pitcher

Secondary position:

Outfield

High School: Polytech High School, Woodside, Delaware.

College graduation year: 2017

College Major: Multimedia Communication. Minor: Marketing.

What I hope to do when I graduate: Move to New York City where I also plan to start my career at a television news station. And, hopefully, I will go on to graduate school.

My passion on the field: Pitching is something that I have always worked on and something that I want to keep getting better at. I am always trying to improve for myself and the benefit of the team. The feeling after a well-pitched game is incredible.

FIRST COLLEGE GAME PITCHED: Lily as a freshman
with ice pack on shoulder after a one-hit shutout
in five innings versus the Gallaudet Bison on their
artificial turf field, Washington, DC, Feb. 23, 2014.
Academic Achievements: Graduated high school with a 3.7 GPA with radio/ television technical degree diploma.

Non-major courses that I have enjoyed: Acting.

What I like most about college: Since Wesley is a small campus, I have become close with a lot of my professors. This makes it easier to talk to them. Also, you see everyone on campus and you really get to know them.

Favorite campus spot: The Den is a great place to see and meet up with people and grab a bite to eat.

Things I like to do: Besides playing softball, I mainly just hang out around campus with my roommate or softball teammates.

What I did last summer:
Completed a 3-credit marketing communications intership at a Reston, Virginia, firm, which included travel to a technology camp in Austin, Texas. During that time, I also played fastpitch in the Fairfax (Virginia) Adult Softball League.

SUMMER LEAGUE: Lily (third from left) with the Fairfax, Virginia, Longshots' adult fastpitch softball team. Lily was the youngest player on this squad of former college players, now career women, in the 25-35 age range.

What I did over the winter break: A week of BIG contrasts/ adventures! Traveled to Negril, Jamaica for cliff diving, parasailing, snorkeling, and skipping across waves on a catamaran! Then, flew to Toronto, Canada, and a visit to Niagara Falls on the drive back to Delaware!

Best Advice I’ve received: “Woooosaahh”. My coach used to say this to me whenever I would get frustrated back in 7th grade, and I still say it to myself if I need confidence or to calm myself down.

BEFORE & AFTER: Lily discovered a new pitching
form in her sophomore summer (somewhat, not
perfectly,
illustrated by the second position above).
It is T1ncher Pitching Fluid Dynamics. Pitching coach:

Nicole Thomas (Warwick, MD).
Favorite Player:   Andre Ethier

Favorite Team:

LA Dodgers

Favorite Book:
A Stolen Life

Favorite Movie:

Sliver Linings Playbook

Favorite Quote: “Sometimes the only thing in life that's fair is a ball hit between first and third”

Who I would like to invite to dinner: Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, lead singer and drummer from the band Twenty One Pilots. I listen to these guys every day and especially before every game.

What is most important to me: Family, friends, and, of course, my glove.
