claims #8 in latest national rankings

The roller coaster ride in national rankings continues, especially among the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) teams.

In the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, April 6, 2016, the Christopher Newport Captains, recently ranked #2, then slipped to #4, NOW SITS AT #8 after being swept by the #5 Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.

The Salisbury Sea Gulls, also owning the #2 spot at the beginning of the season, later dropped to #8, but now has CLIMBED BACK TO #6.

Earlier this year, Christopher Newport and Salisbury split a doubleheader when the two were match against each other in the first CAC contests of this season.

Add it up any way you like, next week the Wesley Wolverines will step to the plate for four games against both these powerhouse teams at home and away doubleheaders.

It is a small relief, but for the past two years Salisbury has played Wesley while being ranked #1 in the nation!

Now, not only are these two ranked teams a huge challenge on the field, both Universities have considerable larger student bodies behind them. Salisbury undergrads number 7,997, while Christopher Newport attracts 5,096 to its campus. Wesley has an enrollment of 1,528, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

The Wesley Wolverines will play the Salisbury Sea Gulls at home on Dupont Softball Field (500 Mary Street, Dover) next Wednesday, April 13, at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Then a week from this Saturday, April 16, it will be a long hike to Newport News, VA, as the Wesley Wolverines visit the Christopher Newport Captains. Game times have yet to be announced.
