Wolverine's educational opportunities
Whirlwind summer: Virginia internship,
Texas mega camp, adult fastpitch softball
For Wesley Wolverine junior #9 P/OF Lily Engel (Dover, DE), it's a summer of Longshots and Longhorns, softball and software, and journeys, near and far!
Taking full advantage of a Wesley College summer session 3-credit internship, Lily, a Multimedia Communications major with a Marketing minor, has been logging hours creating marketing materials two states away from her home for Matt Elliot Realty, Reston, Virginia. Her work includes assisting with blogging and website updates, photography, creating brochures and videos as well as planning special events.
In addition, the firm has invited her to join them for a four day Mega Technology Camp in Austin, Texas, August 18-22. She returns home just in time for the first day of Wesley's Fall classes!
ADULT SOFTBALL
Living outside Washington, DC, for the internship these past few months, Lily also joined the Fairfax Longshots' fastpitch softball team that plays in the Fairfax Adult Softball league. The conference bills itself as “The largest ASA, non-profit, private softball program in the US!” Though Lily is just 20 years old, the team consists mostly of previous college softball stars who are now working women in the 25-35 age range.
Last night was the first day of playoffs for the league's championship. The Longshots with a season record of 6-8 are true “longshots” to bring home the trophy. However, the team started off right with Lily pitching a shutout in the first game of the tournament!
