2016 EARLY ANALYSIS

New team assembling
Early softball analysis of
2016 Wesley Wolverines

Junior #42 INF Devin Mackay (Bangor, PA)
Please note: The following is a way too early look at the 2016 Wesley Wolverines softball team as a whole, along with a comparison to last year's team benchmarking statistical performance. This is written by a fan and outsider who, admittedly, is making many, many assumptions about who may play where at specific positions in the new season. Only the coaches know, of course, for certain and, as they assess individual skills this winter, probably will adjust and change strategies even before the fall ball quadruple header is played, Saturday, October 3, 2015, and almost certainly before the first game of the season on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

NEW TEAM (2016)

The 2016 Wesley Wolverines may find it tough to match last year's stats. That's because 2015 was a record breaking season on multiple levels.

Still, Head Coach Juli Greep has assembled a team for the new season that boasts great depth as well as a crowd of impressive newcomers, many from regional all-state and all-conference high school squads.

If any team can exceed last year's historic performance, it may be the young women now assembling almost daily for lifting and practice at Wesley West and the DuPont Softball Field.

LAST YEAR (2015)

Last spring (2015), Wesley softball finished with a total of 23 school-record-breaking wins – 11 straight victories at one point; 5 consecutive shutouts tossed while notching 34 continuous innings where no one scored against the Wolverine pitching and defense! There were just 12 losses while playing against ranked teams in one of the toughest conferences in the nation.

It also was a season of two
Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) All-Conference selections: junior #32 INF Kayla Fromal (Middletown, DE) and sophomore #12 P Lindsay Siok (Milford, DE). Both players are returning for 2016. At the same time, junior #18 C Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE) slammed 9 triples to lift her three bag totals to a CAC all-time career record of 14 at the end of just her sophomore year.

THIS YEAR (2016)

Last year's team had

15 players. Four – all starters (3 outfielders and first base) – have graduated or are not returning. This year's team currently fields 19 players broken down as…

three seniors;

five juniors;
four sophomores;
seven freshmen...

ONE (1) UTILITY:

her primary position

TWO (2) CATCHERS:
both as a primary position (1 fall ineligible*).

FIVE (5) PITCHERS:
all 5 listed as a primary position (1 fall ineligible*).

EIGHT (8) INFIELDERS: 7 primary; 1 secondary position
(2 fall ineligible*).

SEVEN (7) OUTFIELDERS: 4 primary; 3 secondary position
(1 fall ineligible*).

* Four players (two seniors and two freshmen) are ineligible for fall ball because they are dual-sport athletes and currently playing on Wesley's field hockey team.
