CANNED GOODS DONATIONS

Collection on Sunday
Please donate canned goods, help
Wolverines celebrate NCAA DIII week

Clean out that crowded cupboard of canned food! Or, make a quick stop at the supermarket for canned goods on the way to this weekend's fastpitch game.

On Sunday, April 10, please donate these canned goods to the Delaware Food Bank at the Wesley Wolverines vs York Spartans doubleheader, 1:00 PM, on DuPont Softball Field, 500 Mary Street, Dover, DE.

Students will be on hand to collect the goods.

Wesley Wolverine freshman #21 P Sydney Botsch (Smyrna, DE)

It is all part of the NCAA celebration of the Division III Student-Athlete. Wesley College especially honors and supports the national theme: Academics, Service, and Athletics.

Now, CANNED goods most often sought by food banks are canned meats, fish, natural juice fruits, low-sodium vegetables, soups and stews. But don't stop at this list. Please bring canned goods of any kind.

Our players most recently have starred brightly in academics and athletics. Now family and fans can help with “service” this Sunday by supporting the team with a canned good or two or – even a whole armful would be nice.

TWO RANKED TEAMS NEXT WEEK

NFCA poll
Salisbury takes #6, Chris. Newport
claims #8 in latest national rankings

The roller coaster ride in national rankings continues, especially among the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) teams.

In the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, April 6, 2016, the Christopher Newport Captains, recently ranked #2, then slipped to #4, NOW SITS AT #8 after being swept by the #5 Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.

The Salisbury Sea Gulls, also owning the #2 spot at the beginning of the season, later dropped to #8, but now has CLIMBED BACK TO #6.

CLICK HERE for the latest NFCA national rankings.
Earlier this year, Christopher Newport and Salisbury split a doubleheader when the two were match against each other in the first CAC contests of this season.

Add it up any way you like, next week the Wesley Wolverines will step to the plate for four games against both these powerhouse teams at home and away doubleheaders.

It is a small relief, but for the past two years Salisbury has played Wesley while being ranked #1 in the nation!

Now, not only are these two ranked teams a huge challenge on the field, both Universities have considerable larger student bodies behind them. Salisbury undergrads number 7,997, while Christopher Newport attracts 5,096 to its campus. Wesley has an enrollment of 1,528, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

The Wesley Wolverines will play the Salisbury Sea Gulls at home on Dupont Softball Field (500 Mary Street, Dover) next Wednesday, April 13, at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Then a week from this Saturday, April 16, it will be a long hike to Newport News, VA, as the Wesley Wolverines visit the Christopher Newport Captains. Game times have yet to be announced.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Honored today
A dozen softball players
boast GPAs 3.0 or higher

The highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) may have ranked teams that at times outscore the Wesley Wolverines fastpitch squad on the dirt, but in the classroom, it may be a whole new ballgame.

Athletes with GPAs of 3.0 or higher from Wesley's 9 men's and 11 women's sports teams where honored today with an “Academic Excellence” T-shirt and certificate at the half time of the Wesley men's lacrosse game.

On the crowded field at Scott D. Miller Stadium,
representing 0ne-third of Wesley College's student-athletes, there were 11 softball players' smiling faces honored with a 12th deserving player, Destiny Davis, not available. That's 86% of the softball team!

Unfortunately, this blogger's camera malfunctioned, which limited photos of the event to the single shot posted below of the softball gals that's been pulled out of the much larger 20 college teams group shot.
